Both mulberries and black raspberries grow like weeds here. Many are volunteers planted by the local birds.
It just so happens that both berries combine to make tasty pie, so I picked a few quarts this morning. The only problem with this particular pie is the seeds that get stuck in my teeth, so I figured I would run the berries through a food mill to remove the majority of them.
That led to a significant quantity of pulp and seed, which I will feed to our pigs with their lunch today. If you aren't familiar with pig droppings, called pig berries, they are pretty much the same size and shape of most seed balls I have seen people make.
I have never made seeds balls, because the process seemed rather tedious. Pigs making seed balls seems a lot easier.
Might have to drive around the neighborhood chucking pig berry seed balls to help spread mulberries and black raspberries.
Will have to test a few fresh pig berries to make sure they germinate, but would be mighty surprised if they don't.
Maybe this is a good sample of stacking functions & lazy permaculture
