At long last, I can walk along my pathways and pluck Saskatoons (serviceberries) straight off the branches and straight into my mouth. Woo!

I see the beaked hazelnuts are starting to bulk up. We've had a bit of rain, which is brilliant for filling out the flesh in wild fruits.

How about you folks?

Middle of winter here means there are still plenty of feral goji berries to be had in the thickets under shelterbelts. But the birds are plucking them pretty fast so they'll be gone before too long.

Following up, the good pollination and well-timed rain showers are making this the best Saskatoon harvest in years. Dear Wife has already frozen 40 cups, and we're still picking. This haul will keep us in jam and baking for several years. That's good, because beneath the surface we're still in drought.

Raspberries are next! We of course have patches of tame varieties that are our favourites, providing the bulk of the fruit.

Even so, the feral patches on the fenclines are producing this year. They're not true wild berries of course, but I think "bird planted found fruit" sort of qualifies.
