Can someone help!?, i'm new to goat farming and looking to run a large herd of boer goats for meat. however i am unsure on how to stop inbreeding from occurring, i have 10 doe's with 4 pregnant and one buck i am worried that in time the kids that will be born will eventually mate with their father if that doesn't happen i'm worried that the kids will make with each other. I need advice on how to run a large herd 100+ without inbreeding. cheers
I only have three goats and I'm new to raising them but it seems to me the easiest thing to do would be to find another goat raiser and swap males, or turn your current male goat in to meat and get another one.
Simply put, bring in new genetics.

The easiest way is to keep your billy separate with a wether for company and control the breeding. That way you can ensure that he is not mating his daughters, also that the daughters are not bred when they are too young. If your billy is young it will also prevent him being bullied by the nannies and therefore putting him off covering them. After a few years you will need to change your billy to ensure that you can cover all of your females without any risk of inbreeding.
Whatever you say buddy! And I believe this tiny ad too:
