Hi,

Can a Saanan kid twice a year? The mother was sold to me last year as a Saanen, and both of her kids were also white, but another goat we bought at the same time had one white and one brown kid, so there was obviously access to a buck of another breed buck in the paddock as well. Could the kid be all white, but actually be only half Saanen and have the ability to breed twice a year?

My husband has pointed out that one of our year-old saanen goats that had one baby in late August (start of spring in New Zealand) is looking pregnant again. I said this is not possible as I understood that Saanen only went into heat in Autumn, which is what happened last season. All the other goats in the flock are looking worryingly skinny, so it is unusual that this one is fat, and I am wondering if it is possible.

Annie
