No, it will not be on national TV. It is only a local rendition of Shark Tank with the Staff from the OSU Advantage Accelerator Program to be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Sports Park in Corvallis. We have been invited to make a 5 minute pitch and then receive 5 minutes of advice from three sharks on our EarthBarrel product.
An EarthBarrel is a container that can sit anywhere: on a deck, in a yard, on the sidewalk. They are half full of water, approximately 20+ gallons. The water collects the heat during the day and stored it in the water reservoir. The heat is given back to the plants at night. They do need their water replenished once a week. The water is wicked by the plants as needed.
The best ideas presented at the OSU Shark Tank will automatically be a finalist for acceptance into the OSU Accelerator Program.
We will be making a presentation at the Permaculture Entrepreneurs Incubator meeting on February 8, Saturday at 1:05 pm in the basement of the Toledo Library on our experience in the OSU Shark Tank.
The purpose of the Incubator meeting is to develop Benefit Companies (B-Corps) for local food production, such as the EarthBarrels. This B- Corp designation protects corporations from being faced with legal challenges from shareholders who demand a profit.
B- Corp is corporation with a heart & soul
On January 2, Gov. John Kitzhaber joined 18 other states and signed a bill that allows companies to register as a B-Corp – businesses that offer environmental and social benefits in addition to making profits.
It must have an annual third-party certificate that it operated with positive social and environmental outcome in community, but not to its profitability.
