Just heard of the Passing of The Great Pete Seeger, while a small case could be made for his not being a ''Permie'' He was Greener that Kermit !

Young Arlo Guthrie said " Yes he has passed away, but no one can say he is Gone ! '' Pete Seeger R.I.P.

Many younger singers have done Pete Seeger songs

Where have all the flowers gone Here's Peter, Paul and Mary ---

Where have all the flowers gone
Long time passin'
Where have all the flowers gone
A long, long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone
Young girls picked them every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

Where have all the young girls gone
Long time passing
Where have all the young girls gone
A long time ago
Where have all the young girls gone
Taken husbands every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

Where have all the young men gone
Long time passin'
Where have all the young men gone
A long, long time ago
Where have all the young men gone
Gone to soldiers every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

Where have all the soldiers gone
Long time passin'
Where have all the soldiers gone
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone
Gone to grave yards every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

Where have all the grave yards gone
Long time passing
Where have all the grave yards gone
A long time ago
Where have all the grave yards gone
Gone to flowers every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

Where have all the flowers gone
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone
A long, long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone
Young girls picked them every one
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn

If I Had A Hammer Here's The Weavers ---

If I had a hammer,
I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening,
All over this land.

I'd hammer out danger,
I'd hammer out a warning,
I'd hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

If I had a bell,
I'd ring it in the morning,
I'd ring it in the evening,
All over this land.

I'd ring out danger,
I'd ring out a warning
I'd ring out love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

If I had a song,
I'd sing it in the morning,
I'd sing it in the evening,
All over this land.

I'd sing out danger,
I'd sing out a warning
I'd sing out love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

Well I got a hammer,
And I got a bell,
And I got a song to sing, all over this land.

It's the hammer of Justice,
It's the bell of Freedom,
It's the song about Love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

It's the hammer of Justice,
It's the bell of Freedom,
It's the song about Love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land
If I had a hammer,
I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening,

Turn, turn, turn --- Pete singing his own song ---

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late

I guess he was an OK banjo player.

I think his real talents lay with a different instrument

We have a Jamaican guy who works the waterfront with his steel drums. The sound projects so well that anyone trying to play guitar has no chance of competing. He has a little block of wood and a ball peen hammer for tuning. Sometimes he takes it over to a grassy area and attracts a smaller crowd of those interested in that process. He's a pretty good vocalist, but he doesn't usually mix the two. He drums a little then sings a line, answers questions from the crowd and thanks people who put tips in his case and then goes right on drumming. He sometimes gives a little history of the drums talk and each song is introduced with a story of it's origin. Most are Caribbean, but Bob Dylan, Seeger and the Stones are also part of his repertoire.

He makes far better tips than the guys who busk with guitars. It's a real job for him and he shows up even on off days when the weather isn't perfect. Because of his willingness to come down when others don't bother, the Harbor Master has assigned him a prime spot where pathways meet for maximum exposure.
