Is it ok to apply wood chips around the base of a fruit tree if they are the same type of tree?

Hi - I have wood chips from a lemon tree. Is it ok to place those chips on top of the soil (mulch) around my other citrus trees? I heard that it is not good to apply chips from trees around the same type of tree.

Please provide links to articles on this subject if you can.

Thanks
Jerry

What you heard is probably good advice if the chips came from a diseased tree -- there could still be pathogens that could infect your healthy tree. With citrus trees, that would take the form of dried out cankerous branches. I wouldn't want to mulch my citrus with that. However, if you have just pruned a healthy tree and chipped up those prunings and applied them, I think you would be all right.

I know timing is also an important factor as well. Mark Vandemeer speaks about it (~35:00) in the video I've attached.

Yeah - it was that video that caused the question in the first place.

Seems like it is really a judgment call based on time, conditions, etc.
