So I am currently tasked with improving the urine diverter in the pooper here at the Base Camp. What are some ideas for making a simple urine diverter. I have read both of the Liquid gold books but they really didn't give me any really good ideas for a urine diverter. Here are the goals I am trying to achieve 1. Easily cleanable. 2. Lowclearence on the underside of the toilet seat ( it has to have a low enough profile to not get in the way of the garbage bin that the feces is stored in) 3. I need it to look nice so that people (particularly women will be okay with using it) 4. It needs to thoroughly drain all of the urine into the urine catchment. So if any one has Ideas or pictures of what they have made that would be great!

Hi,

We use the classic Joe Jenkins Humanure system but have a separate section for the urine. We needed to include more moisture into the system and this is one way of doing it. Thankfully, when my husband build the housing for the humanure buckets he made it as big as he could and we have 3 compartments. So the compartment for urine only is 1) a large 20liter bottle, 2) a funnel made from a similar bottle cut in half, top half turned upside down and fits under the toilet seat, 3) a spray bottle with water and a few drops of aromatherapy oil used to rinse the funnel after every use.

It works well as long as you empty it often. We empty it every 4 or 5 days. The smells don't seem to
escape from the narrow funnel opening. Of course this is like a bidet; if need to do both #1 and #2 or aren't
sure you need to use the standard bucket.

Hope this was helpful.
Linda
