Has anyone enjoyed one of these Survival Research Lab events . I saw a couple during the late eighties . The only way you can
experience danger , heat , and the sounds of destruction this close is in the military . Great entertainment !

Pauline has inspired others to take this approach . Create a dangerous event - an OSHA nightmare - and invite the audience to come close . Expect them to use their
common sense and avoid getting hurt . One such event I attended was held in an old icehouse converted into an
art gallery / music space . In the center of this event space was a series of chains and pulleys suspended from the ceiling . Hanging from one end of a chain was a huge block of ice - 2000 lbs maybe . On the other end was a counter weight - maybe 1500 lbs . No barriers prevented the audience from walking or standing too close . Lighting was set up to illuminate the ice dramatically and also provided heat which melted the ice progressively through the evening . As the ice melted it
rose and the counter weight lowered . The audience was warned that at one point when the ice reached a certain height it would be released and fall . The counter weight - now free of its opposing force would follow quickly behind . And they did . Bands were playing , people were milling around the artwork . Spoken word performances took place . This thing crashed into the floor . The crowd cheered . Nobody got hurt .
