Using air cylinders for controll of vents

I've got some of the solar vents now. Not to happy with them and when I read that I should take the cylinder off in winter I wonder why I ever bought them. Winter here in Arkansas can get into the 60s or even 70s. I need to have vents able to work all year. So it occurred to me to maybe use air cylinders. Anyone rigged up a system for this? I'm going to look at price for used cylinders. Have an old air tank, pieces for a pump and other assorted things laying around. Air cylinders would also allow more motion than I'm getting from the solar cylinders and that I see in vids on you tube.
