Recently got 10 acres out in Southern Oregon, planning on moving there by next year to continue my college education + start working on my homestead.
I would love to have someone along for the ride, but regardless of whether I find someone that works out, I'm doing my best to make it out there anyway.

Currently live in Texas, attending community college, studying for my Computer Science bachelor's. Enjoy nature, quiet nights, gaming, and most movies and shows.
Although lately, I haven't had much time for the last three things.

Simple nerd looking for someone compatible to start a life with. Dating apps have been a headache, so I found this site via Reddit.
Just giving it a shot.

Send me a message or reply here if you're interested, thanks for looking!

Hey brother, fellow Texan here with friends in Oregon. Going off of "generalized demographics" of both States, I'm presuming you're not liberal (unless from Austin area). If that is the case. Most of Oregon is so far to the left of even Austin, it might be culture shock. However there are many rural southern Oregonians who are more traditional conservative types but are numerical far fewer than anyone left of center politically. Not to be political here, just talking sociology. I'm from north Texas and every one of my liberal and conservative friends all over Washington and Oregon told me that there is no scenario I'd enjoy being there, because even if I mind my own business on my own land in a conservative area, the state is mostly liberal women judges who are big government types that want to legislate every aspect of life of any person in the state, down to even the water that falls on your roof which you're forbidden to capture and drink without permission.

Be aware. Texas is basically an entirely different country. Different laws. Different basic expectations of being left alone in peace, etc.

I wish you well in whatever your pursuits.

Hey man, thanks for the concern. The thing is, I used to live in Southern Oregon. I don't know where most people get this propaganda that most people are even political to begin with out there. From my experience when I lived in Oregon, most were just chill people living their days. Just like anywhere else.
I think there's some kind of quiet group from Oregon spreading hateful rumors about the place to deter people from moving there. I literally see it all over the internet, but have never met anyone who's taken the time to visit or live anywhere near Oregon, let alone the southern cities where people really only care about keeping their communities looking nice.

I really appreciate the concern, but I suggest that you get off the forums and social media and go explore America. It's not as bad as the internet makes it.
I promise.

Take care!

I moved to Oregon 10 years ago from PA, where I had lived for 20+years.  I grew up in So Calif.  My take on the culture and politics is that the situation is similar to that in other states.  Specifically, the rural areas are more conservative, sometimes markedly so, and the large cities are liberal.  In Oregon that means the Portland area, Salem area, Eugene to a degree, and some other towns, notably Ashland.  Brookings is trending that way while Gold Beach, 30 miles to the north is relatively conservative.  Basically, Southern Oregon, south of Eugene is on the whole fairly conservative.  Eastern Oregon, more or less defined as east of Interstate 5 is conservative except further north, where you need to go further east for this dynamic.

Unfortunately it is true that the political system has been hijacked by the left, as described by the previous poster.  Right now they are really working on diminishing of firearm rights.   There is significant pushback however, and a strong movement by many counties to secede from the state and join Idaho.  My expectation is that imminent social and economic crises (e.g., demise of the dollar as  world reserve currency, introduction of CBDCs, and other issues) will force many leftists to wake up or starve.  So I don't worry about it and just keep working on my preps and networking.

As far as people minding their own business, I have found that nosiness and related behavior transcends political affiliations, though I do agree that liberals as a class seem to feel more entitled than others to interfere with others' lives.

As for rainwater catchment, rooftop catchment is TOTALLY legal.  I don't know where the misconception that it is not came from.  Here is one of many websites that confirm this. https://worldwaterreserve.com/is-it-illegal-to-collect-rainwater/  Where I live we get so much winter rain that capturing even a portion of the rain falling on the roof easily amounts to over 10,000 gallons.

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
