Tapping sweet gum trees?

I have two huge sweet gum trees on my tiny homestead. I've heard that you can tap them for syrup but I'm having trouble finding resources on what that process would look like. Has anyone here done that or could you point me toward someone that has? Even if we only get a little bit of syrup with two trees I think it'd be fun to give it a shot! I'm in north Alabama so I don't think many, if any folks around here are doing that.
