Hello all. I have been trying to grow potatoes in ground without great success. Potatoes are a big part of our diet and unfortunately I have not been able to produce enough of our own. I have conceived an idea to build potato bins out of pallets lined with fabric to keep the soil in. The space i have for these bins are on a concrete patio. My two concerns are watering,of course, and the heat from the concrete. The portion of the patio that i would be putting the boxes already collects leaves because the garden beds are edged to keep the soil in the beds not on the patio. That led me to the brilliant, maybe, idea to mulch the patio around the potato boxes to keep heat down. So going the long way around the barn, what I am wondering is if anyone has grown potatoes on a concrete patio, any advice from their success and failures? What should i be shooting for in the soil mix? Mostly, does this sound like a good idea. Thank you all for any help with this.
