We are now on our third chicken coop design - mostly because of moving. Each time we make adjustments to what we do to make it easier on us and make it happier for the chickens We also try to use recycled materials (lumber, doors, windows, roofing...all collected from discards at our local dump).

After this last time I think we have come up with some simple principles for what we like ti include when we design our coops - safe, airy, dry, roosts, laying boxes etc. None of this will be new to the 'old hands' of having chickens - but hope that beginners would enjoy/learn from us and so we threw down our thoughts here:

Chicken coops for beginners

I hope this summary will help folks
