Hey y'all!

I'm interested in learning more about cob building, but also recently started a new job- And I'd love to have an opportunity to assist with cob projects in my state, in my free time. It's my goal to learn the techniques and practice all the parts of cob construction and eventually build my own home either here in Georgia or elsewhere, depending on where codes permit.

If anyone knows of any groups, projects, or organizations in Georgia, I'd love to chat with y'all and join along!

Hey we have a little cob action here  in NE Georgia
Do you have red or Grey clay on your property?

Hi Elisa, welcome to Permies, we are near Ila (and Athens), where are you in N GA?

I'm not connected with any groups or associations working with cob, rammed earth.
In general I follow the noted philosophy of the timeless Groucho Marx:   "I refuse to join any club that would have me for a member."

Hey there! I actually don't own property yet- I'm looking to buy some in the future, but I want to practice and build my skills with cob/natural house building before so.

To me it depends on the group- If I feel I can learn something from them, I'm more than happy to pitch in- Though a lot of times I find I'm not a fan of big organized groups either.

Let me know  please when your family finds a spot.  While you decide, y'all can certainly gain experience with cob.  If I had to start afresh in these NGa hills , I would start with ceramic artists in or around Athens  , Atlant, Milledgeville ( home of the Southern Gothic icon Flannery O'Connor)

Many of them have diy advice, beginning workshops, or just old fashioned advice.  Art, science,  chemistry and physics combined.....what an amazing group of folks, honestly

Some in Athens area have largish bags of pure clay.  If you  then add  another stop by ________ building supply for sand and straw, ready to jump in.  After you perhaps  work on a small project or two, I predict you will source free clay , maybe work on sifted earth and locally cut straw for your cob.
I trust y'all will have fun along the way.

Look ma! I'm selling my stuff!
