7 1/2 years ago after our housefire the contractor bringing in fill dug us a pond in our yard.
Well from the old house we had 3 treated lumber gates ..solid..and 2 were 4' x 6'...and we thought..why not frame them on a platform and use them for a small deck by the pond to sit on and look over the pond..we put 8' high posts around it and planned on using the 6x8 deck as a covered gazebo..

well the posts weren't good and began to rot before we could get the roof on..and we never trusted them to hold a roof ..so the deck with 4 posts sticking up sat there for 7 1/2 years..getting piled with junk and an eyesore..

well today my husband and I dismantled the entire mess..pulled off the gates, which were still in good shape for the most part, and the framework was still solid 2 8' and 4 6' boards..so we salvaged them..the posts were partially rotten but still fairly solid..4 8' posts.

so, now having that mess off of my TO DO list.. ...the gates are now going to be added to my garden fence as fencing that will hide as a screen my 3 burning barrels (which we seldom use but keep in case we need them..?) the salvaged posts will frame in a raised bed with some other partial posts we have..and the salvaged framing lumber (treated 2x6's)  will be saved maybe to frame in some future raised beds..if i ever get around to it.?

at least the spot is now clear of the mess..and the soil is rich black and i'm trying to decide if it is going to be lawn, or plant somthing there..(Ron says..not another garden to take care of )

used the gates and built 16' of fence and screened the unsightly barrels on Wed and then framed in one large raised bed with some of the lumber..

will frame in another raised bed  probably tomorrow

much better use of the materials
