now that my wife and I are moved into our new house, we're trying to observe and not plan too much for next year. I'm having a hard time with the transition (my wife says I don't like change.) Our old garden at our apartment was awesome after putting work into it for a few years:
It would be impossible on year one to go straight to the level of the above photos, but we have so much more potential now:
MOAR space
chickens + duck will be in the same area and not down the road like the old garden
control to plant trees/ do
earthworks
I can walk out the back door straight into the garden- less absence from the garden
here's what we have to work with now, with more acreage in the back. We're just going to focus on converting the yard-type parts for the time being.
the backyard part and the side
yard part are separated by a brook. there's also a septic tank and drainfield sort of in the middle of the backyard.
chickens and duck are in temporary housing for now, and we have some tomatoes planted right outside the back door. an hour away, the old garden is planted with potatoes, corn, garlic, and what's left of our herbs + flowers. Corn, garlic and potatoes will be harvested, and herbs + flowers will get transplanted here over the next few months.
I'd like to take a
PDC next year, and in the meantime, I'm going to keep reading as much as possible.
