Hey everyone,
My name is Matthew and I want to let people know about a new initiative I have started called the St. Spyridon Center (SSC). The SSC is a mission and research center focused on formation, education and evangelization. One of our goals is to help get more people involved in practicing Permaculture methodologies and to do high-quality R&D in order to catalyze the ways that Permaculture can re-build our food, landscapes and world. The Center is open to everyone but is especially geared toward Christians who may have had no exposure to Permaculture and what its benefits are. I myself am a Christian and have been an avid student of Permaculture for the last 6 years when I first discovered it living in Austria. It is my faith that actually helped me to embrace the design principles, techniques and paradigms that Permaculture has to offer. From talking with other Christian friends and acquaintances, it seems that there is a common misunderstanding of what Permaculture actually is. Many have not even heard the term. I want to help clear up that confusion by fostering a space of education and formation that provides an introduction for those who need it, and then gets deep into the science and theology of it all in order to continue to make Permaculture techniques the smartest, most localized, effective, affordable, sustainable, and leisurely way of providing for the needs of all life on earth.
We are going to develop free educational online content (blogs, podcasts, videos, how-to guides, etc.) as well as host retreats, workshops, and summer formation programs at our current 2 acre property, with hopes to build a larger research/retreat space in the future. All of the resources we develop and the experiences we host will be centered around learning Permaculture from a Christian perspective. I want to build a program that acts as a bridge between Christianity and Permaculture, and to demonstrate that Permaculture methodologies are perfectly compatible with a Christian worldview. Additionally, I hope to demonstrate the Christian understanding of Permaculture as well and show what Permaculture, as a philosophy as opposed to merely a design system, can gain from a Christian understanding of the world. If anyone is interested in our work, check out our website here: www.spyridoncenter.com. Consider subscribing to our mailing list and, if you would like to support our efforts to bring more faith-based Permaculture resources to the world, consider becoming a monthly financial partner, or making a one-time donation! We can't do this without your help!
Thank you!
P.S. I am not sure where the right place is to post this on Permies since this is my first time starting a new topic. I posted in a couple different threads the same message. Moderators, feel free to (re)move this if necessary!
