I have no idea where to post this, so if this is wrong please correct me.
Our neighbor has put his wine yard up for sale - I don't know how many hectares it is exactly (4-10?).
But the sale is this: It has a well, and a water tank - two actually, one functions as a pool. All legal. It has wine yards and some unexploited land (a neighbor has his bee hives there). It has wine production facilities - including tanks, everything nessecary for testing and blending wines and wine cellars, customers - the wine currently sells at €6 a bottle (that is ALOT in Spain), whole sale prices. And there is a small flat - kitchen/diner/living room w. 1-2 bedrooms on top. It is run organically, but not certified (he doesn't want to keep more books and can't get a higher price on his wine if he did, he says). There is a small income from letting the local goat herder run his goats on the unexploited land. He want €1,2 million.
The only people I know who has that kind of money are not the kind of people I'd like to have as neighbors... Esp. not if they were to farm the land
The reason he is selling is because he is 70 and it is too much work. His kids don't want to take over, or help for that matter, neither does his wife so he does all the work alone or w. hired help.
I suggested that a permie could come and run the land for him/with him and maybe take over the farm in bits. He would not be interested in renting with out influence - because the value lies in the quality of the wine produced and the customer portfolio - but he were interested in maybe a cooperation (with an option to buy?). He is interested in learning permaculture.
I have no idea how this would pan out - but wanted to put it "out there", if somebody is interested let me know
