upper michigan

So I have 80 acres in the upper peninsula of Michigan that I can do a project on. My question is for anyone in that area or in a similar area. What methods do you use for mosquito and blackfly mitigation in those areas.
Anyone familiar with the u.p. knows this can be a quite brutal situation in the wilderness to deal with. Like biblical even lol.
Are there any permies in upper Michigan that have found ways to deal with this problem in the rural areas?

1. Eliminate standing water close to the dwelling. Mosquitoes can successfully breed in an old cottage cheese container left outside.

2. Any standing water you can't eliminate, put some carnivorous fish in there, preferably native. Or BT dunks.

3. Encourage everything that eats mosquitoes, dragonflies, fish, birds, spiders, bats, etc.


4. Wear long sleeves and a bug net when it gets bad.


5. DEET, last resort, but effective.

There is a cheap and nonchemical idea to get rid of mosquitoes. A quick trip to walmart would get you everything for it. Here is the video;

Sean, I've decreased mosquito populations drastically with bat and martin houses (12 ea) in the driftless of WI. Good luck!

we used geranium oil mixed with water in a quart sprayer this year and it worked great
didn't get to try it on ''no seeums'', it took a month to heal up my arms from the welts and pox.
we were trans planting and repairing equipment out in the bush.
