A plot of
land just went back on the market. It adjoins my place, and would expand my 11.x acres by 20. It's mostly forest, 25 year old fir.
My short term goal would be to have more room for rotation of pigs, a
dairy operation, pastured/forested
chickens and a CSA. My aspiration LONG (but intend to start right away) term is to setup a
permaculture community/village and training center, with eventually subdivision parcels etc. in non-profit model addition- for this I know I'll need a partner who does excavation, design, perhaps an investor for legal fees etc unless the community chipped in. Here's the dilemma. I don't have $70k liquid, but it might be in the existing property by way of timber. If I logged all conifer and converted the existing (in blue) back to grazing (this is what it is zoned for), and bought the other, would it make sense? It's a tempting decision but I want to do right by the land. On one hand a system that incorporates both properties would provide lots of food, and more diversity. On the other, it is risky because I have no heavy equipment and it will need to gradually purchased. I can't do something on this scale alone, but with partners and/or and
intentional community generating revenue with training, it could be possible.
