Name ONE THING. ONE.. I dare you. Name one thing we use in our daily lives that came from a university ?? Came from 'out standing research from XX university"....the answer usually is: not one damn thing. Universities are only there to publish papers, sometimes get patents that will never be licensed and the big reasons they do this is to write grants so they can get more money to do more stuff to write more grants to write more papers to get more money. NEVER do they do anything that will actually become famous and impact your life... so... don't expect the ant sized radio, or anything else from any university or 'published paper' any decade soon.

p.s. I asked this same question of one guy and he had the perfect answer... when asked to name one damn thing a university has ever produced his immediate answer was, "Fast food workers." ..... that about sums it up.

Orphan drugs , I am alive today because of medical research done at the University level after private industry decided that they were not only going
to cancel an existing research program, they were going to stop production of a an existing drug line .

MOST of the drug research today cannot be un-coupled from University medical centers ! Big AL !

Ok... 3000 patents in 1 year, billions made in revenue.. still... NAME ONE DAMN THING that is FAMOUS for coming from a University. Something that is used in daily life, something people can point to and say that came from Stanford research.

How about Google search engine?
Used daily by millions of people world-wide.
Used by more people than all other search engines combined.

It was the results of a research project by Larry Page at Stanford University. Sergey Brin joined the project, and they later founded Google. To this day, Stanford still holds some of the patented material, but has granted Brin & Page exclusive rights to use it.

Google's first URL was google.stanford.edu
