So I've had a good look at this great thread

https://permies.com/t/5969/books/List-permaculture-readings

...but I'm a little confused as to where might be the best place to start for someone in our situation.

Basically my wife and I have just purchased 4 acres of vacant sloping subtropical land on which we want to build our home and farmstead, following permaculture principles. We're super eager to get cracking but we want to make sure we don't rush into building the place without thinking though everything. What would be the best resource to grab ahold of, which will specifically give us guidance on how to design the overall layout of the place e.g. structuring the water systems (dams, tanks, etc), where to position the house, etc. ?
