We just bought 8 acres and I have a nice open spot for the future garden. On one end is several tall pines about 15 to 20 feet apart. There is a nice lovely pine straw mat underneath them. They are in sort of a north-south line. There is shade and sun underneath them. Would this be a good place for raspberries, black berries and blueberries? The blueberry farms here in east Texas are all out in open sunshine, the blueberries, if not topped will grow to over 20 feet tall, a nice little tree, but I can't reach that high!
I was recently given a white blackberry plant from the Luther Burbank garden in California and I want to make sure I plant it in the perfect spot. Would under these trees, or close by be a good place for it? I also want to plant regular tame black berries, but will separate them by some distance. I just hate to cut these trees, but want to utilize that space. They are close to the house and so pretty!
And what about planting the berries close to cedars? We have lots of cedars, but the branches grow low to the ground, so couldn't plant under them, but what about close by?
Thanks for your help!!
