Richard and I go on a hike to heart lake. This was my second time hiking this. The first time was in the summer. This time was after the RMH workshop and a good bit colder. We also had time to hike up to pearl lake, up the ridge line and around the top of heart lake. Once we got above the lakes we were hiking in clouds the entire time. Cold, soggy and white-out conditions the whole time but still beautiful and serene. The elusive and wildcrafting Richard has a rare screen presence here. Keep tuned in for a more in-depth look at The Richard. Although I think he's onto me now. The Richard is a pretty sly and crafty fellow. When loosed in the wild The Richard has a voracious herbaceous appetite. Berries don't stand a chance. They might try to scream, but nobody's gonna hear. It's easy pickings following in his foot steps and cleaning up the scraps. This glimpse of The Richard was taken hastily in the bush. I made a sound and almost gave away my position. Luckily he gave up the query and continued onward.

Still hiking. Unknown berries, beautiful backdrops and what must be a very important find. I've assumed The Richard met all his hydration needs through the intake of vegetation and berries like the koala. Here though, we see he is getting ready to fill a canteen. I must take note of this and possibly use it to my advantage in the future. However slight, this does seem to be a weakness to explore. I was lucky to be assumed a bumbling idiot on the rock path so he didn't notice me studying him and deceptively getting this picture. My skills in this space seem to be gaining. His distrust of my company seems to be waning and might even be turning into a slight camaraderie. I should be able to exploit this in the near future for easier study. I must admit at this writing though the worry of him finding out my ruse. I'm sure I can't outrun him and I don't think I can take him on his native terrain. Must be careful.

Are those lakes over by the Idaho border? How long of a hike was it?

Yes, in fact the ridge line above heart lake is the Idaho border. Look up heart lake on the internet. Decent info there. This hike was maybe 6 - 8 hours. Would have been longer if not as cold and more visibility on the ridge.

Nope
