WSDA Small Farm and Direct
Marketing Program invites Farmers to attend this
workshop:
Poultry Production and WSDA Poultry Processing Bus Tour for Farmers
Poultry production can be a highly
profitable direct marketing strategy for small, diversified farms. Since there are specific regulations and licensing compliance needed to process and market poultry safely to consumers, this mobile workshop will provide a firsthand opportunity to learn about your options.
This workshop will take producers to visit 3 farms with varying scope of production and on-farm licensed processing facilities, as well as an independent WSDA Licensed processing facility. All of the farms produce and
sell broilers as well as eggs and each has a unique production system. We will see
chicken, duck and turkey production, mid-scale commercial egg production, as well as processing options. While on the farm, host farmers will share in-depth coverage of the steps it takes to become licensed processors as well as regulations for direct marketing poultry. Business and financial planning will also be covered by producers. While on the bus we will discuss additional risk management tools, regulations and enterprise budgets.
Who is this workshop for? Farmers currently producing poultry for eggs or meat or farmers planning to add this production to their farming operation
Where will it be? Skagit and Whatcom Counties on Tuesday, June 1st, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Cost: $18.00
