How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. ~Anne Frank

Are you concerned about climate change, energy use & our children's future?  Want to learn how to adapt in a dramatically changing world?  Permaculture design is a toolbox for positive action in our common quest for sustainable futures.

Patricia Allison is  offering a certification credits in the Fundamentals of Permaculture to home owners, gardeners, students, farmers and anyone interested in living more lightly on the earth, August 21 through September 5 at Laughing Waters Retreat Center just outside of Asheville, NC.
“My primary aim as a teacher,” continues Allison, “is to help people grasp the unalterable fact that we live totally connected to nature and her laws. Healing our current environmental and economic crisis, requires that we disengage from our consumer culture and find methods to restore water cycles and soil fertility, grow food locally, reforest our mountains and promote social and economic justice."

Some of the topics covered in the course include landscape analysis, water conservation and use, soil health and erosion control, orcharding, gardening, ecoforestry, natural building, aquaculture, rainwater catchment and cisterns, alternative energy, animals in the home system, alternative currencies, and urban design strategies. A unique feature of this course is the focus on hands-on learning; every afternoon will be devoted to practicing the skills that we will be learning about in the morning classes.

“Patricia's gift is that she takes complex material and composts it for us, breaking it down into nutrients that we can readily receive." says Peggy Austin, a former student.
