I am a fungi-beginner and have been toying with Oyster Mushrooms and reading Mycelium Running.

Also, I am a home-brewer. I was wondering if anyone has ever successfully grown mushrooms on spent whole grains left over after brewing.
What types might thrive on spent wheat, oat, and rye grains? Most craft breweries that have started up in New York recently have been tossing, composting, or feeding their spent grain to cattle.
Welcome! We had a thread on that a few months ago. I would search for it. It even got on the daily-ish mail post. To add to what has already been said, most mushrooms can be grown on grain. That is how most are grown in the sterilization procedure. The trick is getting there before mold or other contaminants, so I think your most important procedure is to get them quickly inoculated and protected. The growing part will be easy.
