Permablitz description:

** THANK YOU FOR LEAVING YOUR PETS AT HOME **

At this Permablitz we will be working primarily in zones 1 and 2 on this 5+ acre property.

We will install surface water catchment using gabions to slow and move water into berms and swales. We will also install perennial trees, plants, and crops for human, poultry, and bee forage as part of a perennial food system. We will integrate poultry as the food garden’s working animals. We will dig and plant berms and swales on contour with trees and plants, including native and cultivar trees, farmer’s trees, perennial vegetables, butterfly, bee, and beneficial insect gardens, and other food-producing plants suited for our climate. We will support our plantings with soil amendments, cover crops, mulch, and drip irrigation. Come join us!

Breakfast and lunch will be provided both days and anyone is welcome to camp as long as they are responsible for their waste. Let’s not just leave no trace but leave a regenerative one!

The video shows the big picture overview:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SWa0cjZsZo

GOALS
1. Harness and slow water on land.
2. Rebuild topsoil - we have lots of bare limestone where water currently rushes right through
3. Establish/expand perennial food system (human/poultry/bee)
--> Further leverage working animals’ role in building perennial food system
--> Reuse duck water more deliberately in food system
--> Staggered flower/fruiting for bees and food for humans
4. All aspects of design take into consideration low maintenance where possible– automation in planning and design. We want the ability to leave for a week or 2 without scrambling before trip (as much as that is possible).

We will be working in zones 1 and 2:

Here are those zones with the property owners' PDC designs roughly overlaid on the property.

A map of the potential elements addressed in the Permablitz in red. Priority will be on areas 2, 3, and 6. If time permits, then also on 12 and 13.
