Seed School is an innovative 8-day course designed to help participants understand the seed world enough to create new regional and sustainable seed production and distribution systems. The workshop will train permies, gardeners, farmers, seed savers, entrepreneurs, ngo’s, policy makers and anyone else interested in turning the tide on the industrialization of our food and agriculture systems.

Classroom time in this permaculture inspired program will range from an introduction to genetics to the modern database management necessary to start a seed business or add a seed component to an existing organization.

It will be balanced with hands-on activities including planting, selecting, harvesting, processing, germination testing and packaging seeds. Seed School takes place in the beautiful Verde Valley in Arizona from September 25th through October 2nd, 2010.  Some camping on the property is available.

The primary teacher, Bill McDorman, has been finding, growing, testing, harvesting, packaging and selling seeds for 30 years.  He co-founded Garden City Seeds in 1981, started High Altitude Gardens in Ketchum, Idaho in 1984 and incorporated Seeds Trust in 1989.  He currently oversee daily operations at Seeds Trust Southwest in Cornville, Arizona.  Bill took his PDC 5 years ago with Larry Santoyo.
