i would like to plant quinoa in my pig pasture and allow them to self harvest. as i undertand it, the leaves are edible, but they seeds themselves contain toxins to deter birds (it is rinsed for human use). would this be bad for teh pigs? i could let the animals onto the pasture before the quinioa had flowered.....but ideally this would be a self seeding system, so i would wnat to allow some plants to drop seed.
We have a lot of brassicas, amaranth, chicory and millets in our pastures. They all self reseed fairly well with appropriate timing on the rotational grazing.
sorry for the delay, i have been away from the computer.
i just finished processing a bunch of quinoa (not really a bunch, i have 3 kilos or so, but a bunch to be processed by hand), i was planning on dumping all the chaf in a disturbed pasture.
thanks for the feedback.
I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but I see you are unarmed - shakespear. Unarmed tiny ad:
