1.22 degree slope N NW (2.71 % grade)
Existing 25 - 30 conifers on a slight mound (maybe 1/2 a foot)
USDA Zone: 6b

Question(s):
1) How would I go about expanding the windbreak from the shrub layer out on a northern slope with already established
trees? Or is it not possible? (There is shade on the north side of the trees all winter and the ground under the shade is frozen.
2 a) Would it be smarter to place a mound before the trees toward the north west since the trees area already established?
2 b) given there is only 20' to the property line on the NW corner of these existing conifers and 75' from the NE corner would a physical barrier be a better option?
3) How many hours of sunlight would be required for a shrub based conifer during winter? (In my case the sun would only be an evening sun and would likely only last a couple hours at best)
Right now my
permaculture mind is leaning toward option 2.
This is going to be part of my second
PDC design
project and is turning out to be rather challenging given the gentle northern slope.
