We are in an area of France that is known for its apple orchards ( and its cider and calvados!) Does anyone know if it's 'safe' to use mistletoe in compost bins/as a base for raised beds etc. I am just a bit unsure about this, though as it's green I guess it should break down fine! there's no reference to it anywhere in the forum.
Am I worrying unduly? hope so, as I know where there is loads of it ;o)
I would go right ahead. I've composted everything from toxic spurges to deadly mushrooms. Nature will fix everything by the time it's turned into compost (unless you have heavy metal contamination or another inorganic issue).
hi David,
thank you for such a speedy response! That's great news and a spur to sort out the mistletoe on the orchard next door. Our elderly neighbours died a couple of years ago and we returned this year after a five year absence to see what was once a thriving orchard, laden down with mistletoe.
many thanks for your advice
