I just read an interesting article suggesting that white rice could be a good thing: http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/what-white-rice-better-than-brown/

I've always thought white rice was just like white flour - tasty but more or less going to kill you. Any thoughts on the claim that it's actually nutritious?

Neat! Good to know... always a bummer to realize Ive assumed something like that as common sense and never given it a second thought!
A true child of corporate science, I am

I read a study a while back (I think *this* is it but Im at work and the page wont load)

It was mostly relevant to cultures that suffer widespread malnutrition with a dietary focus of white rice - leading to both malnutrition and obesity.
By cooking the rice in coconut oil and then immediately chilling it in the fridge, the carbs were drastically altered.

I personally don't do this cause I'm a waif and want all the carbs I can get, but its damn helpful for maintaining my dogs weight and cooking for certain health-nut guests

I haven't read the link, but the Kempner rice diet studies are quite well known, and showed results inconsistent with modern dieting trends.

White rice has almost no nutritional value, it is essentially empty calories. That said, it is IMHO healthier than brown rice, due to the anti-nutrients present in brown rice. A zero is better than a negative.

I love white rice, but only eat it maybe every month or two. I add tons of grass-fed butter when I do eat it.

The main point I hear in favour of white rice compared to other starches with empty calories is that the amino acids are the correct balance.
