Does anyone know the order nor succession Joel salatin uses on his farm? I know it's cows then chickens but after that I'm not sure. Seems the pigs follow pigs but in different grazing areas in different orders but after that I I'm lost on his order. Any help? Please!

So far as I know the pigs aren't part of any actual multispecies pasture rotation for Joel. They work in converting woodlands into pasture, then in the spring they work in turning the cattle's barn bedding into compost, then back to the woods. I *think* he simply uses Cattle > Chicken or Turkey > Cattle, but I could be wrong.

One animal rotation I do know for certain is Shepard's though [bear in mind this is intended for a Silvopasture with a productive overstory rather than bare fields], Cattle > Pig > Turkey > Sheep > Chicken > looong rest > Cattle.

It's a system I'm hoping to emulate myself. Though I'm also curious if anybody else has further detail on Salatin's system.

I have read several of his books and from what I understand, he only rotates cattle then chickens with three days between.

I've never won anything before. Not even a tiny ad:
