Depending on the size of the branches, maybe two per branch.
My persimmon tree is about 8 feet high now, with about a 6 foot spread from one side to the other. I think I've got about 50 fruit on it, and I could have thinned that more. But they will be really good sized when I harvest them.
Spread your hand open, with your thumb and little finger splayed outward. How far is that? About 10 inches or so? Thin the fruit so that there is nothing closer than that. That may mean that you'll only have 20 fruit left on the tree but they'll be good sized when you pick them, and next year you'll get 30. When
trees are young it's so hard to do this because it feels like we are losing so much. But you've got to be patient with fruit trees. In five years, you'll have more than you'll ever need. So thin aggressively, and you'll appreciate the 20 or so fruit that you do end up with.
"The rule of no realm is mine. But all worthy things that are in peril as the world now stands, these are my care. Did you not know?" Gandolf
