Should I thin the fruit on my "Yates" American persimmon tree?

I have a Yates persimmon 10 ft tall and loaded with fruits ( 100 #). Too much for this small tree. Does natural thinning happens or do I thin myself?

It will thin a few naturally, but you'll want to get in there and aggressively thin it yourself.   Otherwise you'll only get undersized fruit.

Thin ruthlessly.

Thin mercilessly.

Thin it, and then when you think you are done, thin it a second time.

Depending on the size of the branches, maybe two per branch.

My persimmon tree is about 8 feet high now, with about a 6 foot spread from one side to the other.  I think I've got about 50 fruit on it, and I could have thinned that more.  But they will be really good sized when I harvest them.

Spread your hand open, with your thumb and little finger splayed outward.  How far is that?  About 10 inches or so?  Thin the fruit so that there is nothing closer than that.  That may mean that you'll only have 20 fruit left on the tree but they'll be good sized when you pick them, and next year you'll get 30.  When trees are young it's so hard to do this because it feels like we are losing so much.  But you've got to be patient with fruit trees.  In five years, you'll have more than you'll ever need.  So thin aggressively, and you'll appreciate the 20 or so fruit that you do end up with.

Great advice Marco!  It's so counter intuitive that thinning so much of your fruit will actually lead to better sized fruit.  It's hard to thin that much at first but once you do you will be happy you did.

I've reduced the fruits  to 25%. Last year i had 10 fruits the size of a tennis ball so this year 50 the size of a ping-pong ball hopefully.
What i noticed is that natural thinning was weak. Only 12 fruits fell of.
When i had 4 or 5 fruits in row the first fruit was the smallest and the fruit size became larger gowing to the end of the branch with the fruit on the end being sometimes smaller.
Just observations.
Any comments welcome.
Thanks for the advice all above.
