Alberta, BC Land Tour

Hi all

If things go as planned, I should be breaking from a "normal" lifestyle and pursuing a self sufficient lifestyle in a couple of years.  Toward that end, I'd like to do an investigative tour in Sept to check out land and permie type areas.  Plan on investigating the Nelson-Nakusp, McBride and Parsons BC areas.  Financially, northern Alberta would be a simpler transition but I've not found an area/community that is attractive.  So what I'm looking for is some assistance on who/what to see in the various areas and suggestions for other areas that I should look at.  I like the theory of intentional communities but most seem to be more doctrinaire than practical; a land share sounds workable.  Sooo, if you know of someone(s), land or a climate nook that should be investigated please contact me.

I'm in the Elk Valley; Baynes Lake and Invermere come to mind as places that might interest you if you're doing a loop via Highway 3.

When it comes to northern Alberta have you looked into the High Prairie area?
