Going to Nicaragua, want to meet SWF, 45 -55

Hi, there,

I'm Jess, a single while male into permaculture.  I am 60 but, by benefit of having long-lived ancestors, I look and act 50 or younger.  My last girlfriend was 45.  I am 5'-6", 170 lbs., brown hair, grey eyes, English ancestry, not bad looking but no movie star, like classic rock & roll, and have a sense of humour.

I am moving to Nicaragua and sitting up a finca, a farm or ranch.  I also want to establish a Permaculture Research Institute to test new crops in the Central American region.

I am looking for a female who is interested in permaculture and who has already had children -- I can't have them.  It would be helpful if you spoke Spanish, because that's what they speak down there.

I am highly intelligent, Ph. D. level, a member of Al-Anon and  a meat-eater (although the love of my life is Indian vegetarian.)

I do not drink, drug, smoke or party.  I am not abusive, but I do have a temper, which I work on.  I am looking for a female who also doesn't drink or drug or smoke and hasn't been in divorce court multiple times.  I was married once, but had to leave since the girl kept getting drunk and doing crazy things even when sober.  Mistakes happen.

I'm wondering about the back story as to why Nicaragua?

And too - "although the love of my life is Indian vegetarian"  is this your. . . . mom  ?

Indian vegetarian is a type of food that (a) exists in India and (b) contains no meat.  I learned about it from the Hare Krishnas.  Personally speaking, I am a secular humanist, that is, an atheist.

I am not thrilled by Nicaragua, but living expenses there are one quarter of what  they are here in the U.S.  For instance, a small city house plus utilities is $400 a month.  Dinner is two dollars, a dollar in the countryside, and the tip is a dime.  I am also attracted by the low land prices in the countryside, where I plan to set up the finca.

Interesting.... I loved those peanut butter balls (I don't know what they are called) the Hare Krishnas would serve at their dinner parties, delicious.

Low cost of living is an attraction, it's been said that those receiving monthly checks can live much better stretching their dollars in Spanish speaking countries.

Hi Jess, not wanting to throw cold water on your dream, but please do due diligence before packing up and going off to Nicaragua.

Right now they are in a border conflict with Costa Rica.  They have invaded a piece of land that Costa Rica claims is theirs.  Supposedly, Ortega is doing this partly to drum up support for a reelection bid.  He is subverting their constitution, which like ours, allows for two presidential terms, only.  He is trying for a third term and this border spat is to sway the citizens towards nationalism.

Also, this bit of land is on the San Juan river leading to the Atlantic/Caribbean ocean and this incursion is purportedly financially backed by Hugo Chavez in a quest to dig a canal to rival the one in Panama. 

Nicaragua may become unstable and not too good of a place for a Gringo to live.  You may want to look at Panama or Costa Rica as a place to have your finca.  We've been to Costa Rica, and although it is more expensive than Nicaragua, you have a functioning democracy in place.  They do not have a standing army, but I don't think the powers up north will let them be taken over by any expansionist and neighboring government.

Nicaragua is a functioning democracy and is the safest place in Central America.  There are no guerrillas, no narco-traffickers, little crime. 

There have been plans to build a Nicaragua Canal since before the Panama Canal; efforts have never ceased to build one.  Boarder squabbles happen all the time.  I am not interested in politics. 

As for gringos, ALL the countries down there welcome the hard currency we bring in and will do nothing to distress their source of free money and investments.

I came back from Nicaragua. I have this advice: do not go to Third Word countries without friends.

The reason I came back was not the money or the difficulties I faced -- it was that there was no one to spend time with, or socialize with, or even to merely talk to. No friends, no companions, no women (in third world countries, 100% are married), and it didn't help that there was no mail, no TV or radio or newspapers or magazines that I could read.

The gringos that lived there were NOT like-minded. They were scum. They were either big-time drunks or else they spent their very generous money on as many whores and collecting as many comforts as they could. No wonder the words 'American' and 'gringo' are slurs and curses. Managua is packed with whorehouses, bars, strip joints and casinos, but not one library or museum. My entire diversion in the three months I spent in the capital city, Managua, was buying one Stephen King book I found in the foreign language section at the University of Nicaragua. Every day I was there I was taken aside and seriously warned by someone not to dare to go out after dark. People didn't live in houses, they lived in compounds surrounded by fences topped with razor wire. After a while, you do start asking why.

Despite all that, I would go back if I could, that is, if I were part of a group. With friends, people to talk to, at the very least.
