Mainly, if your cintrol has preset battery charge modes, they are ok. If you set the charge parameters to what the battery manufacturer specifies, you will get the best performance, including longevity.
The most critical would be the max charge current setting, if it has one. If you have enough pv and controll, you could damage the battery with excessive current in bulk mode.
I think that unless you are electronics savy, your controller just has the glitch until you replace it. Aways read the manual, there could be functiins i dont know about. It could be worse and if its not under warranty, i would just use it.
