All I can say is WoW!  What a forum!  I'm here in Merryland, on the Susquehanna.

Thank you!

Yes, welcome, new guy.  You'll like it here, so join right in.

Wish we had a section to welcome new members like some other forums.  This is a friendly place, but one can feel like they are lost among the many here when first signing up.

We do have welcome threads, and people pop in and are welcomed when they introduce themselves - kinda like New Guy did.

Check out this welcome tread - https://permies.com/bb/index.php?topic=2450.0

Or start your own     and let us know more about you.

Jami, you are right about that and I have participated in them.  What I more or less had in mind was rather than a thread being started, and then getting buried in the shuffle, was more of a category like we have on the main page, eg. Permaculture, Organic practices, etc.

Some forums have an "Introduce yourself" section at the top of the forum page.  It kind of keeps it all together instead of the new member searching or having to start their own thread.

Just a suggestion to make it easier for the newbies and for us to get to know them.

I'll give it some thought about starting another one.  I am afraid I would find myself bumping it to the top all the time.

BTW, love the quote at the bottom of your posts.

Awh yes, this has been discussed and what we got was the 'Social Lounge' - here people can introduce themselves, hang out, meet permies singles or just chit chat.......... It's the permies place to do all things social *grin*

Paul isn't keen on adding new parts to the forum(s) - but who is to say what the future might hold.  Not to get your hopes up, but you can always PM Paul with your needs and desires.

Thank you for clarifying what you were talking about

Exactly, just like adding the singles room.

Paul said the other day he does not answer many PMs, and I'm not about to email him for something as trivial as this.  Plus, he will probably see this thread anyway.  I don't blame him for not wanting to add too many rooms.  If he added every suggestion we had the landing page would go on forever.

I'm sorry I wasn't all that clear.  I was trying to bring out that a new member has to guess where to post the introduction thread, and then, not everyone gets to see it.  We're all pretty friendly here and it would be nice to give the new people a hearty welcome.

I am way behind in email, and even further behind in PM's.  But I did see this.  I changed the description for this forum so it might help a bit.

And, of course, you can always create a new thread here whenever you want.

Good deal Paul..... now can we do something about that word 'meaningless'?  Delete it, replace it, maybe...

(1) . . . . . Drivel Form

(2) Other drivel forum

(3) This and That forum

(4) Jest for Fun forum

(5) ETC form

What Say You Permies?  Vote for one of these or add your own     There's nothing meaningless at Permies!

Thanks, Paul.  A very simple solution making it easier to decide where to post things on our mind and to welcome new members.

A Merry one to you and yours today.

Jami, all good choices.  You are right, there are no meaningless topics here, (most of the time)...

OK, a couple of others;

(1) Not so Meaningless Drivel

(2) What's on your mind?

(3)  All other stuff

(4) The complete forum for all things you can't figure out which other forum to post in

That's my fantasy/wish list for today.

A Merry and Happy day to you.

Sounds like everything is well under control with the naming and reasoning of topic structure.
