2 acres on eastern tip of the Big Island in the coastal jungle. Located in an off-grid neighborhood with organic farms, orchards, small communities, people who raise goats and cows for milk as well as chickens and ducks for eggs, and radically eco-aware lifestyles.  Bike ride to ocean swimming, thermal ocean lagoons, tidepools, Green lake, and black sand beach. Property has 2 cabins with solar power and 12v fridge, outdoor hot shower and bathroom. Besides young and old orchards of citrus, soursop, rollenia, cacao, papayas, mangoes, starfruit, durian (sorry, not fruiting yet...), avocados, there are many kinds of bananas and a coconut grove.  It's a veritable botanical garden with colorful plants and fragrant flowering trees, and a fairyland-like bath area. Looking for a caretaker familiar with permaculture concepts and willing to live a slightly rustic off-grid lifestyle. You can still have music, computer (no internet access but possible to set up), and small kitchen appliances. You may deal with mosquitoes (some are more bothered than others), water use dependent upon rainfall (catchment system), amount of solar power depending upon sunshine, and basically living in harmony with the natural environment. Years of experience taking care of land is not as important as maturity, reliability, communication skills, and honesty. Ability to figure out how to fix things simply and cheaply with available used materials is necessary- basic plumbing and carpentry skills are useful. A family creates too much impact, so I prefer a single man or woman or a couple, maybe with a baby OK.  I would need to meet you in Hawaii in December or January, or in California (I live in Sebastopol) in the spring, but I hope to have someone by the time I leave in early Feb.  Right now I pay someone who I trained to do my land work- the upkeep is extensive, but varies with the seasons and rainfall. I would possibly require some rent to be paid until fully trained and I no longer have to pay someone on the outside for maintenance, but this can all be discussed and there are many variables.  Would like a 1 year commitment. I visit at random times during the year, and may rent my cabin as a short term vacation rental for permaculture oriented people only. The caretaker cabin is one large room, a porch, and a separate but attached kitchen.  I am looking for someone ASAP, so please contact me at shoshannama@gmail.com

Oooo, ah, that's how it starts. Later there's running and screaming and tiny ads.
