In the book Mikrolivestock, downloadable for free, link below, some research about muscovy duck, Cairinia moschata, for fly control in farms is described.
Some quotes as a teaser:
(with muscovies) Within 30 minutes over 90 perent of the insects were gone. It took flypaper, fly traps, and bait cards anywhere from 15 to 86 hours to suppress the populations that much.
...
muscovies are biodegradable, will not cause a buildup of genetic resistance, and taste better than flypaper.
And yes, they really wrote that about the taste of the flypaper in the book. As it was written by scientists, they probably had to taste it?
I read everything from 60 to 200 eggs/ year for the muscovy duck, so there is probably a huge genetic diversity. Anyone has muscovies? If yes, how many eggs do they lay?
The whole book is good, by the way.
