raspberry techniques

I've always thinned raspberries to a few new strong canes in the early spring, as this is how berry growers in puyallup valley do it.

but i heard rumor (dave) about heading off the canes. is this in addition to thinning in spring? or as another way of pruning altogether?

(okay, i heard you talking about it but wasn't paying attention, obviously!)

Except for shocking omissions of the Puyallup favorites: Tulameen and Meeker. Hmmm. I shall ask local raz growers if those varieties warrant which pruning technique and report back.

Tulameens I think are popular all over Western Washington and I should share that info!
