We are in the process of purchasing a home in Hammond LA with 3 acres of land. ~1/2 is wooded. We have decided that along with the annual gardens, we want to develop a portion of the land as a food forest.
We have been doing a lot of research into it, and starting to build essentially a database of plants for various purposes. But this will only go so far and it will take some trial and error.
What we hope to find are like minded people, interested in permaculture and food forest to share knowledge and develop a local community.
Wheather you have 30 years experience or just beginning yourself, we dont mind. Learning is better with others, and if you already have the knowledge to help teach us, even better.
Frankly we are both tired of the rat race and not even knowing the neighbors. We have a desire to get back to basics and would prefer to associate with those who had similar views on life.
So if you live near hammond, and clearly being here you are interested in permaculture, contact me.
And if you are reading this and are in south east Louisiana, Say about 2 hours from Hammond and have a food forest or permaculture farm you wouldn't mind giving a tour of so we can learn a few things, please contact me. I am having trouble finding anyone within a few hours and in our region to see some of their practices.
Hi Arella and Allen,
My partner and I live together with a young baby in Baton Rouge and we both have a vision of living on a permaculture food forest north of the Lake. We dont have the means yet, but we have been forming ideas, learning, and making plans to make that vision a reality. We are happy to share seeds, plants, fungi, and knowledge.
We also have a slack workspace and had our first conference call last week! This is still in it's infancy but we are here to begin supporting Louisianians in nurturing the social ecology and getting connected to people, groups, and resources relating to regenerative agriculture and permaculture. We'd love to hear from you and to help build solid connections on our ever expanding web!
Hi Austin and Louisiana Fam! Newbie to permaculture. Looking at land in Abita Springs also and being a helping hand where I can for the experience. Would like to transition from my desk job in the next ten years and retire to my own piece of land that I would have been built up. Moving next month to a rental property in Piegeon Town. Work downtown New Orleans full-time.
