picture size for profiles

Hi there - are there any posts about the optimum dimensions for the user profile and user cover picture?  Thanks.

I did find this page but it does not mention the optimum dimensions.

Thanks - I did too.  I bodged up an image with some rough dimensions and it worked, guess I will do the same with the profile image/avatar

Nick, is there any way you could tell us the dimensions you used? I've also wanted to know what size image works best, and I'm sure other permies would love to know, too!

The original image I uploaded was 1800 x 508px at 72dpi.  The width obviously was OK as the page code adjusts that.  However the height of the image has been cropped and cut out the beautiful storm clouds!  So I am uploading with post a different version, 1800x350px to see what that looks like.

I just had a look - it's a bit better but not as good as the original.  I'm not going to fiddle any more. But at a rough guesstimate the optimum height would be about 275px or 280px.

I haven't found a nice picture for my profile image or "avatar" yet.

Looks like the profile picture inside the circle frame needs to be 200x200px to fit

Thank you - the image I used was probably too wide and too high - the most spectacular part of the image was the beautiful storm clouds over the house etc.  Second version seems a bit better :-) here it is again full width
