I have tried to unsubscribe from the spam emails 3 times now over the course of 6 months and they will not stop sending me permies monthly-ish emails. What do I do now? Can I close my account completely here?

They require active members to receive to monthly e-mail. The only way to unsubscribe is to close your account. If you go to "My Profile" and scroll down to the e-mail preferences bar... expand that and you will find the info you're looking for.
