What to use between vigas

I just wanted ideas of what to use between the vigas on the front and back wall. We have osb board up now to keep the cats from getting back there.
Is it ok to use cement on the vigas?

Traditionally when used in adobe houses they would tack muslin cloth up between the vigas to keep the dirt and insects from falling out of the ceiling
What is that? Is that a mongol horde? Can we fend them off with this tiny ad?
