We've got ash
trees popping up in our fruit rows ocasionally. I found that if you get them in their first year it's possible to pull them out. After that you're into either cutting them back annually, or digging them out. The latter will of
course disturb the soft fruit as well.
On the whole I am happy with a few ash tres in our
land, they can be coppiced for bean poles and
pea sticks etc, and they make half decent tool handles. They will grow into large trees if left unchecked, and your allotment neighbours and committee probably won't like you for that so it's important to keep on top of them.
