This is my first year gardening and so far have had mixed results, at best. I am gardening in an allotment/community garden of about 250 square meters. Eventually, I would like to transition the plot to a forest garden, or as close to a forest garden as allotment rules apply.
There is volunteer ash tree in the gooseberry and raspberry patch and have been advised to remove it. Others have told me ash is hard to kill, and must be completely dug out. With the tree in the middle of the gooseberries I do not like that option. I could girdle it perhaps. Or do I even want to kill the tree? I have also considered chop and drop.
Does an Ash tree belong in a Forest Garden, allotment or not?
