Hello,
I  installed a sandpoint  well at my property about 2 years ago. For a while I had a pitcher pump I used just for small amount of water and had no problems. I wanted to be able to pump more water so installed a little giant 3/4hp pump with 12 gal tank. Our area is mostly sand. I pounded the sandpoint down about 14 ft . I have about 7 ft of water in the pipe. After hooking up the pump I cannot get any water to pull from well. I filled the pipe all the way to top and connected pump to it within a foot. ( it was piped about 7 ft away but I did this to eliminate the possibility of leaks.  I did make sure check valve is in right direction and used pipe sealer on all threads. After trying to prime the pump several times I disconnected the pump from well pipe and water is still sitting right at top. Trying to figure what is going on here. I did test the pump by putting a bucket of water for it to suck from and it sucked it dry in 30 sec. If you could give me any other suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I have the tank air pressure at 28 psi. I used 1 1/4 inch galvanized for the point well if you need to know. Thanks for any help.

Jay

I believe your pump is too close to the check valve. With a 14 ft water column behind the valve and the pressure of the spring on top of that the pump can't overcome the pressure with just its tiny reserve of water at start up...If you installed 3-4 ft of 1.25 or 1.5 inch hose after the check valve the pump would have a reserve of water to build up a vacuum to overcome the back pressure from the check valve. That is the most common cause of the problem you describe.
Cheers,  David

Ok, I will give that a try. Didn't think of that. I did it this way because I have a neighbor down the street that has this setup. I didn't ask them how far their well was down though. Thanks for the reply.
