Love this method! I make small furniture items such as tables and shelves and this is my go to finishing method - instant, no chemical odors (smells great actually) and beautiful
Here's a small table I built using this technique:

Apologies if this has been suggested before, but perhaps the pooper should be named "the pauper" as it is PAUl's pooPER.

thank you.

I grew up watching this! Roy Underhill is definitely one of my heroes. Glad it is available online for free and new episodes are still coming!

Similar to the nibblers, I like to use channel locks to peel out loosened nails. The issue I've had with nibblers is the hardened edge chipping from biting down too hard. Channel locks don't have this issue.

So I have a few general ideas of what you are referring to as a transition town but am not quite clear if there is a singular definition of what this is or isn't.
Does this refer to entire towns or cities that are making this move, or to subsets of these communities that are working towards these goals?
I live in an intentional community in Rochester N.Y. called the little flower community. There are a couple similar things going on elsewhere in the city and I'm not sure if that makes Rochester a transition town or if just our neighborhood is a transition town?

There are plenty of people that would love to us that wood! Those are most likely old growth timbers with very tight grain structure and rot resistance that can't be matched by the quickly grown timbers we mainly see today.
It is often possible to find someone who will take it down for you in exchange for the wood. Alternatively you could take it down yourself and put the wood up for sale on craigslist if you've got the time and ability.
Either way, posting to find interested parties near you on craigslist, sawmillcreek, or lumberjocks.com will likely result in successful repurposing of the material.

Good luck!

I wonder how bone tar or bone salve would work? Has anyone heard of this being used as an antimicrobial?

French cleat mounted storage units, hooks, shelving etc on the walls.
Keep things modular and changeable. In any work space you're going to change gears from time to time and you don't want to be locked in to a certain pattern with large, immovable, stationary equipment or infrastructure. You'll probably start to think of new ideas for changes as soon as you complete and start using the space actually!
Put everything on wheels if you can too.
I've had several small shop spaces and it is an ever evolving thing.
Good luck!
